Mervyn Howard
Mervyn Howard is Executive Chairman of Apache Capital Partners and brings 30 years of global real estate and investment industry experience and expertise in capital raising, acquisitions, structuring, financing, asset management and operations. Mervyn spent 12 years at Grosvenor, the international development, investment and fund management company. He held various senior roles in Grosvenor Fund Management including Board Director and Managing Director of the UK business. Prior to Grosvenor, Mervyn held senior management roles at TrizecHahn Europe and GE Capital Real Estate. In 2013 he founded Perora, a real estate investment and advisory boutique.
John Dunkerley
John Dunkerley, is a founder partner of Apache Capital Partners and has over 25 years’ experience in property and investment management. John is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and for a period of 12 years, John worked for Jones Lang Wootton and Fletcher King, specialising in UK wide investment before building London & Capital’s expanding property division. Between 2002-2004, John acquired £300m of commercial assets for London & Capital and after generating successful returns left to establish the property advisory arm of BPIM. John expanded into Europe and China and established a Shariah compliant open ended property fund with Emirates Islamic Bank in the Middle East. To date John has completed in excess of £2.5bn in real estate transactions. Before leaving BPIM, John built the property business from £2.8m of seed investment to approximately £500m under management and established and managed four property funds that invested in nine countries with over 50 assets. In 2008, together with Richard Jackson, John established Apache Capital Partners, a business that is structured to take advantage of the current market conditions, specialising in investing on behalf of Middle Eastern investors into the UK property market. Apache Capital now manages in excess of £500m of assets with a pipeline which takes AUM to £2bn.
Richard Jackson
Richard Jackson is the co-founder of Apache Capital Partners, a private real estate fund management business specialising in Social Infrastructure and Build to Rent. Current assets under management are in excess of £2bn including development pipeline. Richard is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and began his career at Cushman & Wakefield where he specialised in syndicate funding. Richard’s focus was initially in the UK, predominantly in financing and structuring pre-let developments on behalf of occupiers and investors, before leading the expansion for a retained client into Europe. Richard has worked with John Dunkerley for 14 years primarily on two funds in the UK and Europe, the latter of which Richard focused on growing the portfolio acquiring assets throughout Mainland Europe. Richard established Apache Capital in 2008 with John focusing on the alternative sectors comprising student accommodation, senior living including retirement villages and now owns the largest purpose built BTR platform in the UK outside of London comprising over 6,000 apartments. Richard is based in London and is responsible for the UK office, strategic business development, oversight of transactional, development & operational management and investor relations. Richard is a member of the IPF Residential Special Interest Group (SIG) Committee.
Ben Pile
Ben Pile is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and has 15 years’ experience in real estate investment management. He spent 6 years at ING Real Estate Investment Management (UK) and has extensive commercial property experience in both transactions and asset management. Ben spent two years in asset management before specialising in transactions across all sectors of the UK property market. Latterly, Ben was part of the Special Projects group, focusing on deals of £50m+ in central London offices, shopping centres and portfolios. More recently, he has been involved in setting up a retirement care business and has experience in prime central London residential development. Prior to ING, Ben had two years of corporate finance experience with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. Since joining Apache Capital, Ben has been an integral part of the team acquiring, transacting and managing all assets since inception and is now responsible for the Social Infrastructure investment platform. In this role he has worked on a number of prime development projects in student accommodation, healthcare and affordable housing. Ben has acted on over £1.5bn of property transactions in his career to date.
Denis Aghaizu
Denis Aghaizu has over 18 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry, the last 11 of which within the Private Equity Real Estate sector. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, having trained at PwC London and qualifying in 2001. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Prior to joining Apache, Denis was a director at Bilfinger Real Estate Argoneo, a former Morgan Stanley Real Estate asset management platform, where he was head of the finance department. Before Bilfinger, Denis spent seven years at Morgan Stanley as part of their Frankfurt-based Private Equity Real Estate team, which managed at its peak Eur 13bn of commercial real estate across continental Europe. He holds a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and is fluent in German.
Andrew Park
Andrew Park has over 18 years’ accountancy and real estate experience. He is a qualified accountant and holds a degree in Law. His training as an accountant and subsequent experience included a high degree of speciality in financial modelling and analysis, initially centred on social housing before expending into the wider real estate sectors. Prior to joining Apache Capital Partners, Andrew worked for AEW Europe and ING Real Estate Investment Management and was responsible for fund modelling and strategic analysis for their UK and pan-European platforms. Andrew is responsible for client and internal reporting, financial modelling and analysis across the portfolios to aid acquisition and transactional due diligence as well as provide ongoing quantitate and qualitative management reporting.
Mark Peck
Mark Peck is a real estate investment professional with a private equity and private practice legal background gained over the last 16 years. Mark qualified as a lawyer in 2001 and having spent four years in private practice he moved into real estate investment management with particular focus on shari’ah compliant transactions. He has extensive practical knowledge in the due diligence, structuring and funding of acquisitions in a wide range of sectors and strategies and for both development and investment deals. Prior to joining Apache, Mark was Head of Operations for 90 North Real Estate Partners. Before 90 North, he was Director, Head of European Transactions at HDG Mansur Investment Services Ltd. He has concluded over $2bn worth of transactions in a shariah compliant fashion.
Jamie Snary
Jamie Snary is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and has 16 years’ experience in real estate property and asset management. Prior to joining Apache, Jamie worked at niche asset management practice, MJ Mapp leaving as a Director and member of the Business Development Board. Jamie led the teams on the management of portfolios owned by a range of institutional, fund and private clients.
Jamie was responsible for both the strategic and day to day asset and portfolio management across a diverse range of commercial, residential, industrial and alternative portfolios which at the point of leaving totalled a rent roll of £60m, an overall floor area in excess of 4,000,000 sq ft and value in excess of £1bn. Jamie is responsible for all asset and portfolio management alongside ensuring the success of all our operational strategies.
Alan Penfold
Alan Penfold has over 13 years’ experience in real estate property planning and development having delivered numerous large-scale housing and mixed-use developments for three of the UK’s Top 10 Major Housebuilders. Before joining Apache, Alan worked for the housing and mixed-use developer Crest Nicholson having joined in 2013. Alan held the position of Development Director for the largest region of Crest, successfully managing the Development Team and was responsible for site acquisition, development and planning for the region completing over 600 units per annum over 12-15 outlets. Alan has experience on a wide range of deal structures and has successfully managed joint venture developments with public, private and government authorities.
Alan is responsible for sourcing and analysing land transactions, due-diligence, and managing the land acquisition process through to securing detailed planning permission for all new projects.
David Williams
David has over 20 years of experience in development and construction delivery. His career has seen him work on a number of large mixed use projects, the most high profile being, his involvement in ‘The Shard of Glass’ scheme from inception to completion. Prior to joining Apache, David spent over six years at Muse Developments where he was responsible for overseeing the planning, construction and management of three large mixed use schemes in London and the South of the UK, delivering in excess of 900 residential units and 150,000 sqft plus of commercial units. David’s wider responsibilities at Muse included a role on the New Business Team and he was also responsible for delivering a number of Company and Parent Company wide initiatives. Prior to joining Muse, David was a Director at Davis Langdon (AECOM), where he spent eight years overseeing the team which delivered commercial and project management duties for the Shard / London Bridge Quarter development. David has also had spells at EC Harris and Currie and Brown, where he gained his RICS accreditation and worked on a number of high profile projects including the Old Bailey Courts and the More London project. In addition, David also sits on a number of industry panels and has been a member of the BCO Board of Management.
Andrew Berman
Andrew Berman is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 18 years’ experience in real estate financial accounting and reporting as well as fund reporting and management. Following his Bachelor of Science degree from Leeds University, he qualified in 1996 after training at BDO Stoy Hayward (now BDO LLP) and subsequently focused on turnaround, asset tracing and investigations. In 1999 he joined British Land where he was Head of Joint Venture Reporting with reporting oversight of a joint venture portfolio exceeding £1bn. Between 2007 and 2013 he worked in family office real estate as Head of UK and European Reporting, responsible for cross-jurisdictional portfolios with total asset value exceeding £2bn. He has since been involved in developing and training fund reporting teams and has managed investment funds, as well as having worked on a number of development projects. Andrew is responsible for financial reporting, taxation, treasury and administration.
Eric Lam
Eric Lam is a real estate investment professional with over 14 years’ experience gained in investment management, private equity and valuation. Prior to joining Apache Capital Partners, Eric worked in the Transactions and Portfolio Management Departments of Invesco Real Estate and Heitman European Real Estate as a Senior Portfolio and Transactions Analyst across their pan- European platforms. Eric has extensive knowledge of valuation, financial modelling, investor reporting and transactions. Previous duties included primary analytical responsibility for the portfolio management of individual private equity mandates in excess of Eur 1.5bn, and pan-European investment platforms with an emphasis on UK transactions. Since joining Apache Capital Eric’s responsibilities include development and investment transactional analysis / due diligence, investment recommendations and presentations, portfolio modelling and investor reporting.
Martha Ferreira
Martha joined Apache in 2018 to lead on the development of our interior design and lifestyle co-ordination. Following a period of time overseas, Martha has now relocated to the UK where she has completed a number of private residential commissions both in the UK and Europe. Martha brings to Apache many years of experience working as a freelance interior designer with her unique sense of style and flair coupled with a strong project management and budgeting capability and exacting attention to detail. Martha’s role centres around co-ordinating all respective parts of the interior design process liaising closely with our Joint Venture partners and increasingly advising on the formation of aspirational lifestyles across our BTR platform.
Emma Giannini
Emma Giannini qualified as a solicitor in Scotland in 2015. Prior to joining the transactions and structuring team at Apache she worked as a lawyer in private practice at both real estate and corporate law firms. While in private practice Emma specialised in structuring and managing real estate transactions with a particular focus on corporate real estate structures and Shari’ah compliant investing and has acted on more than £2bn of real estate transactions. Emma is involved in all aspects of facilitating transactions at Apache and provides in house legal support to the transactions and structuring team.
Michael Blair
Michael Blair has circa 10 years’ real estate finance experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. He is also a CFA Charterholder. Prior to joining Apache Capital Partners, Michael worked in the Corporate Finance team at CBRE in London where he focused on Pan-European real estate M&A as well as holding investment roles at GE Capital Real Estate and Oxford Properties in Toronto. His experience includes underwriting and evaluating debt, equity and corporate real estate transactions across all major asset types in both Europe and North America. At Apache, Michael is responsible for financial modelling, transactional due diligence, investment recommendations and presentations, portfolio analysis and reporting.
Nikki Price
Nikki graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2013 with a first class degree in Psychology. Since graduating Nikki has work in the property industry gaining experience in residential and new homes departments. Nikki joined Apache in 2016 as Richard’s Personal Assistant and also assists with the day to day running of the business.
Hannah Monelle
Hannah joined Apache in 2018 as Front of House and conducts all aspects of reception, administrative and PA duties within her varied role, providing a friendly welcome to our clients who visit the Apache office. Previously, Hannah worked in the hospitality industry including spells in France and Spain working for high end travel companies. Hannah moved to London to work as a Private Nanny before joining the Apache team.
